About the Event
The majority of the Jews of the Balkans, Slovakia, and Greece were murdered by the Nazis and/or local fascists and collaborators, yet their stories are rarely taught in Holocaust classes.
These were Sephardic Jews, whose history and cultural traditions originated in Spain. Centropa’s interviews and photographs of Sephardic Jews from these countries provide a direct connection between Holocaust history and today’s American students whose first language is Spanish, as well as those learning Spanish—and help teachers of all subjects teach the complete story of the Holocaust.
Join us for this two-part series where you will learn about the history of Sephardic Jews in the Balkans, discover primary and secondary sources that will help you share this history with your students, and hear about activities, lessons, and projects you can do with your students—all gathered in a Google Classroom for your convenience.
March 22, 2022, 4:30-6:00pm Central Time/5:30-7:00pm Eastern Time—in partnership with the Holocaust Museum Houston.
